WAXING: SKIN PREP & AFTERCARE

Like most beauty treatments, you’ll always get the best results with a little bit of pre treatment prep & the correct aftercare.
Waxing is such a popular hair removal treatment due to it lasting longer than shaving because the hair gets pulled out from the roots.

Some of the key benefits of waxing are:

No cuts or nicks that can leave you with scars.

Shaving can cause rashes on sensitive skin.

For many, waxing makes the hair grow slower and finer.

Waxing produces smoother results because hair is pulled from the root.

Preparation:
Whether it’s your first wax with us, or your first wax at all, there are a few things you should know to help achieve the best possible results.

To guarantee the most effective treatment, let your hair grow out at least 0.5cm long.

Gently exfoliate your skin before your appointment.

Waxing should be preformed before any tanning procedures. Allow 24 hours after waxing before booking a spray tan.

Make sure you tell your therapist:
About any allergies, health conditions or if you have ever had any problems with waxing in the past.

If you are on any medication, including medications for acne.

The types of skin care you are using, such as Vitamin A, retinal, skin lighteners, or AHA’s such as glycolic, lactic, salicylic acids etc.

If you have had any recent skin treatments such as IPL, Microdermabrasion, Botox or Laser Treatments etc.

If you are shy or feel more comfortable with certain techniques. We can provide disposable underwear/g-strings and towels for coverage if you prefer. There are no right or wrong ways, just what is most comfortable for you.

We are here to make you feel comfortable. If you are used to something in particular, please let us know.

Aftercare:
Wait 24 hrs before doing any physical exercise that may cause sweating. The follicles are still open and prone to bacteria entering into them. Raising your body temperature can irritate freshly waxed follicles.

Wait 24 hrs before/after going in the sun as it increases skin sensitivity.

Wait 24 hrs before using any deodorant, moisturisers, make-up, or exfoliation products.

Don’t shave between waxes – it will distort the hair growth cycle, make hairs more coarse and will make waxing much more painful the next time round.

Exfoliate every day after waxing. This will ensure the hair can break through the skin’s surface and avoid ingrown hairs.

Ingrown hair prevention spray - We stock ingrown hair serum that prevents and reduces ingrown hairs - ask your therapist for more information.

Book your next wax in 4-6 weeks. This is the recommended amount of time between waxes.

Your skin will be a little red and slightly irritated but will calm down by the next day.

Don’t spray tan after waxing or on the same day, it can cause irritation and the tan will appear patchy where the skin has been waxed.
